Young racer Caine Lobb continues to shine brightly this year with yet another successful round of the Formula First Winter Series over the weekend.
A perfect three victories from three races saw Lobb gain maximum points for the meeting and increases his lead in the championship prominently with a buffer of 119 points.
This follows on from another great weekend last month where he took two wins and a second place at the first round of the series also at Manfield.
Only qualifying second in last Saturday's session Lobb had to deal with a wet track and some hot headed adversaries hindering his lap times, "Guys were trying to race me in the qualifying - it was really quite frustrating so I just backed out of it, got by myself and got a good time" he said.
In the first race Lobb managed to get ahead after the first corner when the pole sitter locked up the wheels on the first turn - he led from then on. Virtually unseen in the history of the Formula First series, he managed to lead all three races from start to finish with gaps of up to five seconds between himself and second place at race end.
"I got a mean start in the first race and the others and I won each race by at least three of four seconds" said Lobb "In the first race I started in second but the leader locked it up on the first bend".
Formula First is well known for its close racing and for one driver to get ahead and stay there all weekend it is not common. Caine Lobb is showing much skill in the winter series and his talents have not gone unnoticed with doors opening into the Formula Ford Southern Series.
"We're looking at buying a car actually - and doing the (Formula Ford) Southern Series. We're going to do that along with the Formula First Season. Do both of them and hopefully next year do the nationals" said Lobb regarding an earlier than expected leap into fiercly contested Formula Ford series via the South Island route.
Caine Lobb is in a much stronger position nowadays since being offered and subsequently accepting a job with the Canterbury Motor Racing School based at Ruapuna Circuit just south of Christchurch. He was offered the job with the prestigious training school and was literally signing out of Whangarei Boys High School the next day en-route to fulfilling his career dreams.
Caine Lobb now lives in Christchurch where he is employed by the driving school to prepare race cars for the training program and in a few months will himself be instructing drivers, young and old, novice and veteran, in how to improve their technique.
The young 17 year old from Whangarei has made some very substantial in-roads into the national racing industry since rising up from the karting scene into the Firsts only last year. He has since set some new standards in the Formula First Series including new lap records for three of New Zealand's racing circuits.
The third round of the Formula First Winter Series is at Manfield on the 12th and 13th of August 2006.
