HPM Racing team driver Paul Radisich has won this morning's 16-lap V8s race held in wet conditions at the Taupo Motorsport Park.

The first of seven rounds in the 2008-09 championship season, Radisich started from the front of the grid after finishing second in yesterday's season opening race. Taking the lead near the end of the first lap, Radisich in the #777 HPM Racing Ford held out to finish ahead of fellow Ford racer John McIntyre.

Having spent many hours after Saturday's race analysing track data – the team were confident with the setup of the car for the late morning race.

"We had a lot more speed today after narrowing the optimum setup window for Taupo in these cooler conditions," described Radisich.

"We started in the wet but then the track started drying during the race – which did a lot of damage to our tyres. I had a good gap so it was just a matter of looking after them and when Johnny (McIntyre) got close I had plenty to hold him off. Then it started raining again and the tyres gripped a lot better so I was able to open up the gap again," said Radisich – one second

"So that's the best result we could have hoped for – we're now leading the championship so it's just a case of consolidating for the reverse grid race and hopefully winning the round as well."

With three races on the weekend programme, Radisich will start from last position for the 22-lap finale due to start at 3:30pm.
