BRIGHT BATTLES THROUGH THE CHAOS ON THE STREETS OF HAMILTON
by Fujitsu Racing

Fujitsu Racing's Jason Bright has finished 11th in a chaotic opening race of the third round of the V8 Supercar Championship Series, the Hamilton 400 in New Zealand.

Starting 15th, was nearly collect heading into turn #1 off the start when fellow Ford drivers Mark Winterbottom and Will Davison traded paint.

Avoiding that incident and crashes that brought out two safety cars, Bright was placed 10th after his pit stop.

However, contact with the wall damaged the front-left guard and he had to battle a damaged tyre through to the end. Despite slipping to 15th at one stage, Bright took advantage of others misfortune as the tough Hamilton Street track took its toll on cars.

"I made it a lot harder for myself when I clipped the wall early in the race," said Bright.

"The car had pretty good speed, but I was having dramas with the second last corner before the straight. I had just missed hitting the concrete two laps earlier, but I was very fortunate not to have done more damage.

"I actually thought it had broken the steering, but the wheel was rubbing the guard. The tyre was very second hand for the rest of the race, plus I was extremely cautious in case there was other damage.

"The race was chaotic. At different stages I had cars flying off in front and behind me, but fortunately never into me!

"We have a quick car, but our practice yesterday was poor. We learnt a lot in that race and I know with a couple of changes we can move our way up the order.

Races #2 and #3 of the Hamilton 400 will be run tomorrow.
