Everything turned green as the gate dropped on the American motocross scene at the weekend.
Kawasaki's James Stewart romped to two convincing wins in the open class at the San Bernadino course, in California, to lay the foundation for what is widely tipped to be a runaway AMA Motocross Championships title win for the man from Florida.
Nearly two seconds a lap quicker than his nearest challenger, Californian Mike Alessi, Stewart had no trouble in winning the first of his two races by more than 16 seconds and settled in to win the next race by a comfortable 6.8 seconds.
As he had in race one, Stewart steadily pulled away at the start of race two, opening up a 10-15-second lead, where he was able to monitor Alessi throughout the race. He cruised for the final few laps, taking the 1-1 sweep and the overall victory.
Stewart (Kawasaki KX450F) has opened his championship account with a six-point lead over Alessi and that's something that may be hard to peg back.
Setting the tone for Team Green earlier in the day, Kawasaki team-mates Austin Stroupe and defending champion Ryan Villopoto, on identical KX250F machines, topped the Lites class.
Stroupe finished 2-3 in the two outings, while Villopoto finished 5-1.
It seems that teenager Stroupe will fills the spot occupied last season by New Zealand's Ben Townley. Then riding for Kawasaki, the Taupo rider had been a constant thorn in the side of Villopoto all season, although eventually forced to settle for the No.2 spot.
