NZ Midget champion, Michael Pickens, had a successful second round of the ASALMS (American Speedway Association Late Model Series) Northern series at the Grundy County Speedway, Illinois, in America last weekend, qualifying 11th out of 34 cars and making steady progress through the field to finish in sixth place.
"Grundy is a super hard place to pass as the racing line is on the bottom so you have to be really patient. We may have finished higher up but we had a transmission seal go bad and it was putting oil on to the right rear tyre," said Pickens.
Pickens said it was a good night's racing and he is looking forward to this weekend at Toledo, Ohio, the race that was washed out at the start of the season.
The ASALMS is a saloon series raced on tarmac tracks and is regarded as a feeder series for the NASCAR series which is where Pickens is aiming to race.
