New Plymouth Formula Ford driver, Stefan Webling (19) has been awarded one of the nine positions in the 2008 Motorsport Elite Academy.
There were 43 applications for the nine positions, so Webling was very pleased to be awarded one of them.
"I had a fantastic year in the past season of the MTA Formula Ford Championship, first of all winning the MTA Scholarship with the Motorsport Solutions Team to enable me to compete in the championship, then winning the rookie of the year and taking fourth place in the MTA Formula Ford Championship. Now I have the chance to learn about developing my whole approach to becoming a professional racing driver – all the things that make up the whole package, as motor racing is now so much more than just being able to drive a car quickly," said Webling.
The Academy is run by the Motorsport NZ Scholarship Trust in conjunction with the NZ Academy of Sport South and the Otago University's sports science specialists. It concentrates on all the requirements for competing in top-class sport, especially the physical fitness requirements and mental approach. The week-long course will be held in early July in Dunedin.
"This is a great opportunity for me to learn so much more about being a properly prepared motor racing driver. I feel very privileged and grateful to have been chosen for this course to help me become a better racing driver," said Webling.
