On behalf of all New Zealand motorsport fans congratulations to Scott Dixon on winning the Indy 500 race earlier this morning. This is one of the world's biggest annual sporting trophies and is watched by a TV audience of tens of millions and a live audience of four hundred thousand at the circuit. That is the biggest crowd ever assembled for any one day sports event.
Scott has etched his name at the very top of the sport alongside Formula One world champion Denny Hulme and Bruce McLaren. He began his racing career in New Zealand in karts and passed through all the New Zealand single seater classes on his way to the United States.
His win provides wonderful exposure for New Zealand to motorsport fans all over the world.
Congratulations must also to the group of backers who made this possible. They provided the financial resources that underwrote his early years in Indycar racing and their faith has been handsomely repaid.

You have done New Zealand proud and your family it is an honour to be living in south aucks (rewa hard) knowing that its all not as ugly as the news makes it out to be good luck to you and the team.
