Jono Lester is part of a family steeped in motoring history, and is the third-generation of race drivers joining Manfeild-founding grandfather Rob, his father Richard and aunt Debbie – all accomplished drivers in their own rights. Jono joined them in cutting his teeth in the Formula First class in 2003 and 2004, rather than the more conventional route of kart racing.
Jono competed in the Formula Challenge series soon after, winning the 2004 Summer Series, before taking a year's hiatus to focus on fitness training and to raise the required budget to take his racing to the next level.
With the support of Blackwoods Paykels Jono entered the 2006/07 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge at 16-years old and finished 4th overall in his debut season, which included a race win at Timaru making him the youngest Porsche Carrera Cup race winner in world history.
The 2007/08 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge was a tough time for Jono, missing the final round of the championship with a broken leg, however he achieved a race-and-round win at the 2008 Taupo A1GP and seven podium finishes throughout the season.
In 2008, Jono has competed in much of the Australian Porsche Carrera Cup, and was awarded a Presidents Scholarship alongside Jonny Reid and Jason Richards to spend time with Formula One sports neuroscientist, Dr. Kerry Spackman.
Blackwoods Paykels return with Jono for the 2008/09 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge in New Zealand.Achievements:1st 2004 Formula Challenge Summer Series
